Erillisverkot renewed Virve´s maintenance agreement with Airbus

Erillisverkot Group and Airbus Secure Land Communications (SLC) have entered into a renewed Virve maintenance agreement until 2025. The agreement is a continuation of previous maintenance agreements and covers switching and base station technology as well as application maintenance and support services.

The renewal of the agreement will ensure the maintenance of the services primarily until the end of 2025 and as an option until the end of the Virve 2.0 migration. In those years, the network will no longer be developed, but vital changes and updates will be made for usability.

“Airbus has previously confirmed that they will support the maintenance of current Virve technology until at least 2030. The support is conditional on the existence of a valid maintenance agreement with them and on the operator’s adherence to technological evolution. We are pleased that the maintenance agreement now signed will ensure that Airbus support is available until the end of the Virve 2.0 migration,” says Jarmo Vinkvist, COO Erillisverkot Group.

Implementation on a virtualized platform

The implementation of the maintenance agreement is based on the virtualized Taira server platform. The capacity of the platform enables the replacement of all Virve network DXT switches and core servers on the desired schedule. Under the new agreement, Erillisverkot will move to a contract model used by many other Airbus operators, in which maintenance and key software updates will be included in the contract for the entire contract period.

“Erillisverkot has been our valued partner and has always been one of the pioneers as a national network operator. With the introduction of the Taira 700 series, the current Virve network will defend its position as the world’s leading critical safety network throughout its life cycle,” says Samuel Gustafsson, Head of Sales, Airbus Secure Land Communications Northern, Central and Eastern Europe.

Airbus Secure Land Communications has delivered more than 100 Taira platforms since 2017. The Taira 700 Series is a Multifunctional Mission Critical Datacenter solution that provides key functionality for all security authority applications with a scalable TETRA / LTE / 5G core.

The Taira 700 offers a modern virtualized environment for key applications as well as a high level of cyber security.

The public safety network Virve will be renewed into broadband Virve 2.0 service in the 2020s https://www.erillisverkot.fi/en/virve-radio-network/.
